Club director denies that Tottenham player turned him down this summer
Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani has insisted that the Serie A side have ‘no regrets’ about their failed move for Lloris, and he rubbished suggestions that it was the Tottenham star who turned them down.
Last week, several Italian outlets claimed that Lloris was on the verge of sealing a move to the Stadio Olimpico (Gazzetta dello Sport) but the move has since collapsed.
RMC Sport reporter Fabrice Hawkins revealed a couple of days ago that the former Spurs captain rejected the chance to move to join Maurizio Sarri’s men since he did not want to serve as Ivan Provedel’s understudy.
Ange Postecoglou confirmed in his press conference on Friday that the 36-year-old is expected to leave Hotspur Way before the transfer window closes (Football.London), with the Lilywhites thought to be considering terminating the year left on the goalkeeper’s contract (The Times).
Hugo Lloris did not reject a move to Lazio
When asked about reports of Lloris’ turning down Lazio, Fabiani has now told Cittaceleste: “Lloris was an opportunity, but nobody said no to us. We played around a bit, as is often done on the transfer market.”
TuttoMercatoWeb have relayed the additional quotes from the Lazio director, where he insists that the club do not have any regrets about missing out on the Frenchman.
Fabiani is quoted in the outlet as saying: “There are operations that we try to get through at all costs. We are satisfied to have hired an excellent goalkeeper with moderate experience in Serie A, there are no regrets about players who didn’t come because nobody said ‘no’ to Lazio.”

The suggestion that Lloris would be the understudy at Lazio after rejecting the chance to be the number two at Tottenham always seemed extremely strange.
With almost all European clubs in the top five leagues having a number one in place for the season, it is difficult to see who the former Spurs captain could now sign for.
