Daniel Khalife charged with prison escape after going on the run for four days
Police have charged Daniel Khalife with escaping custody from HMP Wandsworth in south London.
The terror suspect escaped from the category B jail on Wednesday, before being arrested by police along a canal towpath yesterday.
He will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, the Metropolitan Police said.
An extensive four-day manhunt, which caused extensive queues on roads, at ports and in airports across the country, came to an end when Khalife was apprehended in Chiswick yesterday.
Witnesses reported he laughed and winked after a plainclothes officer knocked him off his bike on the towpath near Rowdell Road in Northolt.
In a statement, the Met said: ‘Daniel Abed Khalife, 21, will appear in custody at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday September 11 charged as follows: On the 6th day of September 2023, then being a prisoner in His Majesty’s Prison at Wandsworth, being remanded in custody pending trial as ordered at the Central Criminal Court on the 21st day of July 2023, escaped, contrary to common law.’
