Who is Cherie Blair?
Cherie Blair was born on September 23, 1954, in Waterloo, Merseyside.
She studied law at the London School of Economics, where she graduated with a First Class Degree.
She became a Queen’s Counsel in 1995 before becoming a founding member of Matrix Chambers in 2000.
In 2011 Cherie founded Omnia Strategy, an international law firm.
Mrs Blair has actively campaigned for human rights and equality for women and is closely involved with a number of charities around the world.
In 2008, she founded the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women, which partners with global organizations to support women entrepreneurs.
When did Cherie and Tony Blair get married?
While Cherie was studying to become a barrister in 1976, she met future PM and husband Tony Blair.
The pair got married on March 31, 1980.
Do they have any children?
Cherie and Tony have three sons and one daughter: Euan (born 1984), Nicholas (born 1985), Kathryn (born 1988), and Leo (born 2000).
She suffered a miscarriage at the age of 47 in early August 2002.
Speaking for the first time about the miscarriage two years after Leo was born, Cherie recalled how her husband had to make her miscarriage public in order to protect his strategy over Iraq.
She told the Daily Mail: “The kids were OK, and he [Tony] hoped I would understand, but he had to tell Alastair.
“There were implications in not going on holiday, they said. It was known we were going to France. It was all to do with Iraq.
“There had been talk that we might be sending troops in. If we didn’t go on holiday, the concern was that it would send out the wrong messages.
“They decided that the best thing was to tell the Press that I’d had a miscarriage. I couldn’t believe it.
“There I was, bleeding, and they were talking about what was going to be the line to the Press.”
