The Supreme Court of India has granted the News Broadcasters and Digital Association (NBDA) four more weeks to develop fresh guidelines for monitoring TV news channels. The court expressed the need to tighten the self-regulatory mechanism and welcomed suggestions and guidelines. The Centre has already formulated a three-tier mechanism, with self-regulation as the first tier. The court also acknowledged the need for an effective self-regulatory mechanism after some channels went "berserk" during the coverage of actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death case.
