LAGOS COMMENCES PREPARATION FOR NATIONAL YOUTH GAMES IN ASABA
The Head ofTechnical Department, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Uthman Okunnu has stated that Lagos State is known for developing sports from the grassroots and will not deviate from its mandate in ensuring mass participation in physical activities and the “Catch Them Young” initiative.
Speaking recently at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park, Yaba, on the build-up for the forthcoming National Youth Games in Asaba, Okunnu, a season sports administrator, stressed that Lagos is fully ready as names of the students/participants have been sent to their schools for release and consent letters from their parents.
Okunnu said, “We are developing sports in Lagos State from the grassroots. We have been doing this from time immemorial and we will not relent in our effort. In line with the Commission’s policy, we scout for talents wherever they are so that we can nurture and showcase their talents to the world”.
He explained that as part of efforts to ensure that the participants are within the required age bracket, the Ministry of Sports Development is determined to get the actual age of those who will participate in the Games by requesting the submission of a National Identification Number (NIN) as preconditions for all eligible student-athlete.
Recall that Lagos qualified virtually from all the team sports at the Zonal Eliminations Ball Games held at Ilaji Resort and Sports Centre, Ibadan, Oyo State.
