Noughties indie band unrecognisable as they reunite for TWO new albums
INDIE band The Coral look unrecognisable after reuniting for two brand new albums this year.
The noughties rockers found fame at the start of the millennium but have proved they are still going strong with their latest releases over 20 years later.
Originating from Merseyside, the band have seen success throughout their career including bagging a top nomination for their debut album just one day after its release.
The band – led by singer James Skelly – have had a bumper month with the release of two brand new albums inspired by American folk-country music.
Their 13 track album, Sea of Mirrors, dropped last week with plans for another record later this month.
It marks the first time in 2 years that the five-piece have released original material.
Chatting about the concept of the new album earlier this year, James, 43, told Far Out: “Once the album concept was clear, this was us imagining the theme tune for an Italian western directed by Fellini with a Richard Yates-written script.
“It’s us asking ourselves: what would have happened if Lee Hazlewood had produced a Gene Pitney song written by Townes Van Zandt?”
The album was proceeded by the lead single, Wild Bird.
The Coral‘s second studio project of the year, Holy Joe’s Coral Island Medicine Show acts as a follow-up to Sea of Mirrors.
Upon release, proving they are still on top form, the band charted at number 3 – held off the top spot by music heavyweights Travis Scott and Olivia Rodrigo.
It saw them chart higher than fellow top 10 stars such as The Weeknd and The Chemical Brothers and their latest album.
In 2002, the band landed a prestigious nomination for the Mercury Prize award after hitting number 5 in the charts with their debut release.
They also landed a slew of top 40 hits including Dreaming of You as well as performing at a slew of festivals.
Their 2003 record, Magic and Medicine, hit number 1 on the UK Albums Chart.
Originally a band of seven, members Bill Ryder-Jones and Lee Southall have since parted ways from the band.
