Pakistan’s JUI leader calls for Joint Commission with Afghanistan to resolve bilateral issues
Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, leader of Pakistan’s Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) party, called for the governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan to establish a joint commission through mutual discussions to address bilateral issues effectively.
During a meeting in Peshawar, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman expressed readiness to mediate between Afghanistan and Pakistan, proposing the establishment of a joint commission through mutual consent. His offer aims to help alleviate escalating tensions from security concerns between the two neighbouring countries.
Earlier in the day, Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister, Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, invited the Taliban administration, encouraging cooperation with Islamabad to strengthen their bilateral ties.
In a diplomatic move, Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar contacted Afghanistan’s de facto administration Prime Minister Mullah Hasan Akhund in a written communication.
In the letter, Kakar emphasized the solid historical, cultural, religious, and heritage bonds between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
He conveyed Pakistan’s eagerness to deepen these fraternal ties, indicating a readiness to work closely with the Taliban administration to advance peace and stability in the region.
Pakistan alleges that attacks on its soil originate from Afghanistan, a claim denied by the Taliban administration.
About two weeks ago, Pakistani and Afghan forces clashed near the Torkham crossing due to a dispute over a construction project.
As a result of the altercation, the crossing remained closed for nine days,
escalating tensions between the two nations.
Amidst the ongoing border tensions with Afghanistan, Pakistan faces the additional challenge of conducting general elections.
Ensuring security and stability along the border is crucial for a smooth and peaceful electoral process within the country. The Pakistani government is likely prioritizing diplomatic efforts to resolve these disputes, safeguarding the country’s electoral integrity and overall stability.
