Match Preview: Welling United vs Farnborough
Farnborough return to The Vanarama National League South action this weekend as they travel to Kent to take on Welling United.
The Yellows were knocked out of The Emirates FA Cup in their last outing, losing 0-1 at home to Weston-super-Mare, meaning there will be no Cup run for Spencer Day’s men this year.
Saturday’s opposition won their Emirates FA Cup Third Round Qualifying match last time out. A 4-2 win over Gosport Borough in a Replay gave Welling United a place in the Fourth Round Qualifying of the competition.
The Wings currently sit 22nd in The Vanarama National League South standings. They have won two, drawn two and lost six games so far this season, with wins coming over Tonbridge Angels and Havant & Waterlooville.
Danny Bloor’s side did not win a League game in September, with their only victory coming away at Dartford in The Emirates FA Cup. Saturday’s hosts have also only picked up four points at the J Hearnden Skip Hire Community Stadium so far this season.
Farnborough’s away form has been their achilles heel to date. The Yellows are without a win in five away games, including defeats to Truro City, Torquay United and Chelmsford City on the opening day. Boro currently have the worst away record in the League.
Spencer Day’s side won this fixture last season – Hisham Kasimu’s opener was cancelled out by Stefan Payne, before Olly Pendlebury scored a late winner in the third minute of stoppage time to steal all three points. The reverse fixture in Hampshire ended in a 0-0 draw.
