During the first nine months of 2023, 2,248,607 passengers flew via Katowice Airport

The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL SA) – the company operating Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport in Pyrzowice, Poland – has summarised passenger traffic for the ninth month and three quarters of 2023.

Best September in airport’s history

September 2023 was the best ninth month in the airport’s history; 706,036 passengers were served at Katowice Airport. The previous record, i.e. September 2018, when 603,017 travellers were handled at Katowice Airport, has been surpassed.

Last month, 278,975 passengers flew on regular flights handled by Wizz Air, Ryanair, LOT Polish Airlines and Air Dolomiti/Lufthansa. During the ninth month of 2023, the following regular routes were the most popular: Dortmund, London-Luton, London-Stansted, Frankfurt and Eindhoven.

In September 2023, 426,048 passengers flew on charter flights, i.e. flights handled on behalf of travel agencies and touroperators. Passengers most often flew to Antalya, Hurghada, Rhodes, Marsa Alam and Zakynthos.

Record-breaking three quarters

Between January and the end of September 2023, 4,484,592 passengers were served at Katowice Airport. The four millionth passenger was noted on 10 September; never before have so many passengers been handled so quickly in the airport’s history. Previously, four million passengers in a single year were handled at the airport three times: on 2 October 2018, 6 October 2019 and 10 November 2022.

During the first nine months of 2023, 2,248,607 passengers flew via the regular network of flights at Katowice Airport. Most often, passengers flew on regular flights from Katowice Airport to Dortmund, London-Luton, London-Stansted, Eindhoven and Frankfurt. 2 220 157 travellers were noted on charter flights. Such passengers most often flew to Antalya, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Rhodes and Heraklion.

Between January and September 2023, 35,647 aircraft operations were noted.

The vacation season between May and the end of September has concluded. During that time, record-breaking 3.36 million passengers flew to/from Katowice Airport. 1.96 million travellers were served on charter flights. In the first half of November, for the first time in the airport’s history, we will handle the five millionth passengers in a single year. We will conclude 2023 with a great result, approx. 5.5 million passengers. Next year, we expect to handle over 6 million travellers,” said Artur Tomasik, the President of the Board of The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL SA).
