Sunday sport: South Africa dump out hosts France at the World Cup

South Africa are through to the semi-finals of the Rugby World Cup.

The defending champions edged France by 29- 28 in their last eight clash in Paris tonight.

Eben Etzebeth’s second half try proved to be the decisive score, after France led by 22 points to 19 at half-time

South Africa will play England in the semi-finals.

Steve Borthwick’s side held off a late Fiji fightback to win their quarter-final tie by 30 points to 24.

 

Soccer

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny says Andrew Moran won’t be part of the squad for tomorrow’s Euro 2024 qualifier with Gibraltar.

The Blackburn Rovers midfielder sustained an ankle injury while playing for the under-21s on Friday against Latvia.

He was due to be called up.

Meanwhile, the meeting of Wales and Croatia in Group D is goalless in Cardiff at half-time

Cricket

England have lost by 69 runs to Afghanistan at the Cricket World Cup.

They were bowled out for 215 with more than 9 overs to spare – chasing 285 for victory in Delhi.

Harry Brook top scored with 66 for the holders, who slip to their second defeat of the tournament.
