Stubborn managers
Rooney needs to stop the rot so I am hoping that he's not a stubborn manager (like Bowyer) who will just continue with something thats not working. We have looked solid most of the season in 4-2-3-1, the players were settled in the formation and knew what they were doing. We were able to bring players in and out of the system without too much changing, like Laird and Bucanan swapping for Drameh and Longelo due to injuries as two examples.
I think he has tried to change too much in one go so for me we need to go back to what we know and are comfortable with and get the work done behind the scenes to transition the new formation if that's what is really needed.
I personally felt we have looked very good at times in 4-2-3-1 but maybe sometimes sat too deep and tried to defend a lead when we didn't need to. That could have been what Rooney changed first, when on top in a game keep trying to score instead on sitting deeper and deeper to defend a lead???
In the space of 2 games the confidence has drained out of the team and with 3 very tough games coming up the last thing we need is 3 more defeats for the sake of a new formation.
