Police: Threat of gun violence directed at Southington High School
Police are investigating a gun threat directed at Southington High School on Thursday morning.
A number of officers responded to the Pleasant Street school as an “added precaution” after the high school received a phone call from an out-of-state number threatening “gun violence inside the school,” according to Lt. Keith Egan of the Southington Police Department.
Egan did not indicate exactly when the threat was received, saying in a statement issued at about 9:30 a.m. that it came in “a short while ago.”
Egan added that Southington police are “working with the appropriate state and federal agencies to assess the credibility of the threat.”
“Additionally, there is an added police presence town-wide at all schools at this time,” Egan continued. “This is precautionary only.”
“We are working in cooperation with the Southington Board of Education and will send an update once more information is available.”
