AFC Fylde & Community Foundation Support Black History Month

AFC Fylde centre-back Emeka Obi has highlighted the importance of recognising Black History Month.

October marks Black History Month 2023, which celebrates and understands the impact of black heritage and culture. AFC Fylde and AFC Fylde Community Foundation are proud to support the campaign.

The annual month of action provides an opportunity to focus on important issues throughout the United Kingdom and rest of the world.

2023’s theme is ‘Saluting our Sisters’, which highlights the role that black women have played in shaping history, inspiring change and building communities, including those across the Fylde borough.

AFC Fylde and AFC Fylde Community Foundation are proud to come together to support Black History Month.

We have joined clubs and community organisations from the Premier League, EFL, National League, SPFL and women’s game, as well as football’s governing bodies, in showcasing how we promote equality and inclusion – we reiterate that the game is for everyone.

In the United Kingdom, Black History Month was first celebrated in October 1987, and has been held ever-since.

Black History Month 2023 is the occasion to celebrate the invaluable contributions of black people in Britain, both past and present, and Coasters first-team defender Emeka Obi, 22, spoke about what Black History Month means to him.

Obi said: “It’s important that we recognise the importance of Black History Month as a Club.

“It’s positive that we can speak openly and honestly about the issues in our sport and in society, which can help us deal with situations in the future.

“As a group of players, we are proud to fully engage with and support Black History Month, and how it can provide a platform to create change for good.”
