Top 10 movies starring multiple Best Actress Oscar winners [PHOTOS]
Throughout their three-decade film careers, Best Actress Oscar winners Natalie Portman (“Black Swan”) and Julianne Moore (“Still Alice”) have each performed opposite other Academy Award recipients but had never properly shared the screen with each other until very recently. As the stars of Todd Haynes’s “May December,” they could soon find themselves in the running for more Oscar gold and – given their separate lead (Portman) and supporting (Moore) campaigns – could score dual victories.
To celebrate this unprecedented union, we’ve assembled a list of the top 10 movies that star multiple past Best Actress Oscar recipients. Scroll through our photo gallery to find out which of the 100+ qualifying movies were deemed worthy of spots in the final ranking.
For a film to have been considered for inclusion on this list, at least two of its Best Actress-winning stars must have already collected their Oscars at the time of its initial release (but not necessarily before it was filmed). This disqualified films such as 1939’s “Gone with the Wind,” which originally starred two eventual winners (Vivien Leigh and Olivia de Havilland), and 1998’s “Stepmom,” which starred one past victor (Susan Sarandon) and one future one (Julia Roberts).
Cases involving uncredited or voice-only performances were also not considered, nor were any in movies made for television. In addition to being judged on their quality and popularity, the eligible films were assessed on the basis of how prominently they utilize their Oscar-winning cast members.
