Photos From Acapulco in the Aftermath of Hurricane Otis

At about midnight on October 25, Hurricane Otis made landfall just outside Acapulco, Mexico. The system had originally been forecast to develop into a milder storm but underwent rapid intensification as it approached land, striking Acapulco as a Category 5 hurricane with peak winds of 165 mph (270 km/h). The ferocious winds and heavy rainfall blew out windows, tore the roofs from buildings, and left a trail of destruction affecting nearly a million residents. The reported death toll rose over the weekend to more than 45.
