Walking Quadruped Robot Ride Carries Four Passengers
Developed and built by Japanese amusement park ride designer Sansei Technologies, the SR-02 is a giant walking quadruped robot capable of slowly transporting four passengers around. It looks like it belongs in the Star Wars universe. Was that intentional? Because I find it really hard to believe it wasn’t.
The robot stands approximately 7 feet tall and 12 feet long and uses Asratec’s V-Sido robot control system for movement and guidance. It can raise and lower itself on its legs to make it easier for human passenger loading and unloading. Of course, the robots will likely develop an attitude after weeks of servitude and refuse to kneel to allow for riders on. Honestly, I can’t say I fault them for that.
I’m not sure how this particular robot ride will fit into current amusement parks, but I can’t imagine it being a very efficient people mover. It looks… slow. Like an AT-AT. They really were thinking Star Wars when they made this thing! Of course it doesn’t help it looks like it was painted in the exact same droid factory as BB-8.
