Is Lainey Wilson a lock to win Female Vocalist of the Year at the CMA Awards?
The Country Music Association Awards are on November 8, and Lainey Wilson is going to be tough to beat for Female Vocalist of the Year. That’s according to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users who have been placing their bets here in our predictions center since the nominations were announced. Wilson is the overwhelming favorite to win Female Vocalist with 5/1 odds. She’s backed by all Gold Derby Editors who cover awards year-round, 22 of the Top 24 Users who got the highest scores predicting last year’s CMA Awards and 22 of our All-Star Top 24 who got the highest prediction scores when you combine the last two years’ results.
A relative newcomer, Wilson exploded onto the scene at last year’s CMA Awards, where she went in with the most nominations (six) and won two: New Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year. So she’s the defending champion in this category. But she managed to do even better in the nominations this year, leading the way with nine, including Entertainer of the Year for the first time.
In addition to Entertainer and Female Vocalist, her album “Bell Bottom Country” is up for Album of the Year; her hit “Heart Like a Truck” is up for Single of the Year and Song of the Year; her collaboration with Hardy, “Wait in the Truck,” contends for Single of the Year, Music Video of the Year and Musical Event of the Year (it was a good year for Wilson and trucks); and her collab with Jelly Roll, “Save Me,” is also in the running for Musical Event of the Year.
