Cyclist fatally struck by hit-and-run driver in Van Nuys
A cyclist was killed after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver and dragged for nearly a mile in the Van Nuys area on Monday, Oct. 30, police said.
Around 11:30 p.m., the man was biking southbound along Van Nuys Boulevard, between Delano and Calvert streets, when he was struck by a vehicle also heading south, said Los Angeles Police Officer Annie Moran. The cyclist was caught under the vehicle and dragged down the road to the intersection with Burbank Boulevard before becoming dislodged from underneath the vehicle.
The suspect vehicle, described as a light-colored sedan, fled northbound on Van Nuys Boulevard before heading east on Hatteras Street, Moran said.
The man, who police believe is homeless, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No arrests have been announced, and a description on the suspect was not available.
