I left my £2,500 car at ‘safe and secure’ Manchester Airport parking – then it disappeared… ordeal has lasted a YEAR
A MAN who left his £2,500 car at Manchester Airport’s “safe and secure” parking says it disappeared – with his ordeal lasting a year.
Brian Askew, from Northwich in Cheshire, used the airport’s official website to book his Vauxhall Corsa into the Jetparks Ringway car park in October last year.
But when Brian returned to Manchester after a three-day break in Guernsey, the motor was nowhere to be seen.
He told the Liverpool Echo: “I was walking around thinking ‘Did I park is somewhere else?’ and I got a little bit disorientated trying to find the car.
“I realised the car was gone and went up to the barrier and told them ‘It looks like my car’s been stolen’.
“The woman told me it had left at 9pm the night before.”
Brian was forced to get a £72 cab back to his home after alerting cops to the theft.
Officers found the £2,500 Corsa two weeks later in Manchester – but he refused to take the “written-off” car back.
He said: “£2,500 might be peanuts to other people, but it was everything to me.
“I have lost my independence and it’s been stressful to deal with.”
Brian claimed that a year on Manchester Airport has still not accepted liability for the theft or compensated him for it.
He added that he received a goodwill payment of just £200 from booking site Holiday Extras – despite losing £300 in excess.
The Jetparks Ringway website warns drivers that they park their motors “at their own risk” in the “safe and secure” compound.
Manchester Airport said: “We are helping Greater Manchester Police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the theft of Mr Askew’s car from one of our car parks.
“More than 1.4million customers used our car parking services last year.
“Because we take the security of our car parks extremely seriously, incidents like this are very rare.
“As a gesture of goodwill, the customer was offered a refund of his car park booking, the taxi fare to his home address and an additional payment to reflect the inconvenience caused.”
