Hugely popular UK hatchback that’s nearly 20 years old has soared in value & could fetch you hundreds of pounds
A HUGELY popular hatchback from 20 years ago has surged in value and could fetch owners hundreds.
The best-selling motor has seen prices almost double since before the pandemic.
The Vauxhall Corsa topped AutoTrader’s list of the second-hand cars that have seen the largest appreciation since 2019.
According to the analysis, a 2004 version of the beloved little car would have sold for £1,136 four years ago.
But that has now risen to £2,197 on average, as of this year.
This represents a surge of £1,061, or a whopping 93%.
The 2004 model would be a third-generation Corsa, also known as a Corsa C, produced between 2000 and 2007 in Europe.
This generation was the UK’s most popular supermini and second most popular car in 2002, 2003 and 2004 consecutively.
It was also the version of the Corsa that saw the model break a million sales in the UK market.
And in 2021, it was proclaimed Brits’ favourite car of the year, with more new Corsas registered than any other model.
Vauxhall also claimed second spot on the list of greatest price spikes, with the Astra up 78% from its 2019 mark.
The manufacturer doesn’t get all the glory, though, as the data reveals another big-name brand benefitting heavily from value increases.
Ford has seen three of its models take off on the resale market in recent years.
The Focus, Mondeo and Fiesta have all experienced significant appreciation of 75%, 49% and 46% respectively.
However, it should be noted that the pricing data is not adjusted for inflation, so margins are slightly smaller than the data suggests, though only by about £100.
Vauxhall has been contacted for comment.
