Neither of the parties has declared its chief-ministerial candidate, though incumbent CM Bhupesh Baghel is the obvious choice for the Congress. The BJP has fielded several big leaders, including Union ministers, keeping the space open. Raman Singh, the former CM who ruled for 15 years, is not being seen as the hot favourite despite being its tallest poll combatant.
