Over 56,000 Afghan migrants expelled from Pakistan in a single day
The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation of Afghanistan has announced that just overnight, over 56,000 Afghan migrants were forcibly expelled from Pakistan through the Torkham border crossing and have returned to the country.
The ministry updated on Saturday, citing a statement from the office of the Committee for the Registration and Welcoming of Migrants at the Torkham border crossing in Nangarhar province, that a total of 56,872 Afghan migrants residing in Pakistan returned to the country from midnight on Friday to the early hours of Saturday.
According to the newsletter, a total of 7,109 families, comprising 56,872 individuals, were forcibly expelled from Pakistan.
The ministry added that these expelled migrants have been registered and referred to the Office of the International Organization for Migration for assistance.
The newsletter also mentions that another 12,000 migrants, who were also forcibly expelled from Pakistan, have returned to the country through the Spin Boldak border crossing in Kandahar province, where they underwent registration and biometric verification.
According to the newsletter, the committee for registering returning individuals at the Spin Boldak border crossing commenced its operations on Friday and registered 1,132 families, totalling 12,000 individuals.
The ongoing efforts to document and assist Afghan migrants forcibly expelled from Pakistan highlight the scale of the migration crisis and the need for coordinated international support.
