A bus that caught fire in Gurgaon had been fined twice last year for not paying taxes and violating permit terms, according to the Regional Transport Authority (RTA). The RTA has also issued fines to other buses for flouting permit terms, not paying taxes, and overloading. Many buses in the city are not following the rules for All India Tourist Permits (AITP), which specify that vehicles can only travel between specified points and cannot pick up passengers at random points. The RTA conducts regular checks and issues fines with the help of the police.
