Driver breaks little-known Highway Code rule in bid for best parking spot – but who’s REALLY at fault?
AN “IDIOT” driver who thought he’d found a great parking spot has been slammed by fellow motorists for breaking a Highway Code rule.
The shameless red Volkswagen was parked incorrectly, posing a safety risk and leaving other motorists stuck trying to pass.
An outraged passerby who witnessed the illegal move shared a shocking clip on social media.
In a video uploaded to TikTok, he captioned the post: “Some idiot driver parked his red car on the wrong side of the road, and other drivers are having difficulty trying to get through.”
Laws surrounding unmarked street parking can be confusing but if they are ignored motorists can be slapped with a hefty fine.
The Highway Code states: “Cars must be parked facing the same way as the direction of traffic at night if you’re not in a marked bay.”
Drivers could even see themselves slapped with a huge £1,000 fine if caught parking the wrong way.
It could even soar to £2,500 for cars with over eight seats.
The red car, which is not in a marked bay, is facing the direction of incoming traffic on the narrow two way street.
While the motorist can park there – although it is a squeeze – the car should be facing in the other direction.
Some people in the comments of the video disagreed that the parking caused a problem.
One wrote: “There’s enough room to get through if you’re driving properly yourselves.”
Another seconded: “Seems enough room to me.”
It’s not the first time a driver has misunderstood parking laws.
One driver slammed a “ridiculous” £200 fine he was hit with for parking his car on a no through-road.
The motorist from Sydney, Australia, was fined for parking within ten metres of an intersection.
Mr Tank, who had only been living there for five days, insisted to news.com.au that he had never heard of the rule and that other cars were always in the spot.
And he called the fine “absurd”, adding that “any rational person” would think the spot was a legal place to park.
