NAGA Munchetty was caught off guard on BBC Breakfast this morning as guest, Clare Balding asked her about her ‘retirement’.
The news journalist joined her co-star, Charlie Stayt, 61 on the iconic red sofa.
Broadcaster, and journalist Clare Balding joined the pair to chat about her new book, Isle of Dogs: A Canine Adventure Through Britain on the show.
The topic of how important dogs are when people retire came up during the conversation.
Naga told Claire: “You’ve given me hope, in this book. Because I love dogs, as you all know I love dogs, but I have cats, because my lifestyle doesn’t account for having dogs.”
The BBC Breakfast star then shared with Clare how a particular quote from the book deeply resonated with her, providing her with a sense of ‘comfort’.
It was about the idea of retiring and then finding solace in the companionship of a beloved dog.
Naga shared: “You have said, in the book that the best owners are the ones who just retired, waited all their lives to have time to have a dog and are in no rush.”
“I kind of take comfort in that.”
Taken slightly aback, Clare abruptly asked Naga: “So, are you planning your retirement then, Naga?”
Charlie, also appearing slightly stunned, chimed in, “Yes I was thinking that too.”
“No! Not yet,” exclaimed Naga.
She added: “But it is something to look forward to.”
Clare then agreed with Naga and explained that she believed the ‘responsible thing to do’ is wait until the time is right for the dog.
