I’m A Celebrity’s Nigel Farage recounts near-death plane crash hell that left him with dozens of broken bones
NIGEL Farage has finally opened up on his near-death experience when he was involved in the plane crash 13 years ago.
In 2010, the former UKIP politician was standing in the General Election for Buckingham, but he was involved in an election stunt that went dreadfully wrong.
This Morning host Josie Gibson once again provided her inquisitive nature as she asked what Nigel, 59, was doing flying a plane.
In turn, the broadcaster replied that he was, “Being an idiot, flying a banner,” as he confirmed he was of course, advocating for a referendum on the prospect of Brexit.
However, he then went onto recount the incident in detail as he opened up about the impact of his injuries.
He explained: “I don’t recall being unconscious, but I do recall the explosion, the plane flipping over, being stuck in there,everything broken… every rib front and back, split sternum, punctured lung… it was bad.”
The star then admitted that in hindsight, he should have stayed in hospital longer, but he said he was ‘bored’, and so he decided to discharge himself.
Nigel also sustained injuries in a car crash in 1985, where he was thrown into the air and landed his head on a street curb after he was hit by a Volkswagen Beetle.
Nigel explained: “When bad things happen to you in life you’ve got to make a decision. Have I been unlucky, have I been lucky?”
His former rival, MasterChef critic Grace Dent asked whether his “devil may care attitude?” impacts his lifestyle.
Nigel replied: “Yeah. That was one of the things. I’ve had a few things happen which I think does actually help with thinking, ‘Sod it I’m going to do what I believe.’”
Grace then asked whether the politician minded being ‘unpopular’ to the general public, to which he replied: “It depends who you’re unpopular with.”
