Cheap gadget you’d never think of can slash energy bills by £100 – it’s only £3 and takes just minutes
ONE little-known energy-saving device could slash your bills by £100.
Dust that gets caught in convector radiator vanes, also known as fins, can cause the unit to function less efficiently.
This is because any heat produced can’t escape as smoothly meaning the device is having to work harder to warm the room it’s in.
But, you can get rid of any detritus and slash bills in minutes with one cheap gadget – a radiator duster.
B&M is selling the devices for as little as £3 while Dunelm and Lakeland have them in stock for £7 and £10 respectively.
Nicholas Auckland, heating expert from Trade Radiators, said using one of the devices could slash your bills by over £100.
He explained: “Assuming a conservative estimate of an 8% improvement in energy efficiency due to cleaning the radiator fins, the potential savings can range from £65 to £112 per year.
“Of course, it really does depend on a number of different factors, including the level of dust and the proportion of household radiators being of the convector finned type,” he added.
How else to save money on your heating bills
There are endless ways to save money on your heating bills, not least by using energy-saving gadgets such as radiator dusters.
Dave Raval, from LoftZone, previously told The Sun how radiator fans can slash bills by £300.
They work by redirecting rising heat, which can keep you warmer without upping your thermostat.
You can pick up the gadgets from around £15, with Amazon selling them for £25 and OnBuy.com for £23.
Beyond this, Dave suggested installing insulation in your home to avoid heat escaping.
You can buy 4.83m long and 1.14m wide rolls from B&Q for £25 while Wickes is selling 4.92m long and 1.14m wide rolls for £26.
It might seem like an investment, but it can save you £100s a year in the long term.
Meanwhile, try laying down draught excluders to stop excess heat from escaping from your property.
