Iconic Noughties band returning with huge homecoming show and new album

THEY have faced trials and tribulations in the two decades since releasing their debut album, but Kasabian have insisted they are not slowing down – announcing a new album and massive homecoming show at Leicester’s Victoria Park.

The band will return with a bang next year with the massive headline show on July 6 dubbed Summer Solstice II – ten years after they last played there.

A new record called Happenings is also on the way, and they have teased it will be full of belting anthems.

In an exclusive chat in Leicester yesterday after posing for a snap at foggy Victoria Park, frontman Sergio Pizzorno said: “It’s like inviting everyone to this hometown party.

“We have fans all over the world and it’s like gathering everyone into this city and celebrating the music.

‘We are blessed’

“It’s important that the next generation are artists – musicians, film directors, whatever – and that that generation come and see what is possible.

“We were those kids who go and see something massive and say, ‘I want to do something like that’. I think that’s why it’s so special for us.”

Tickets for the show, where they will be supported by Kaiser Chiefs, will go on sale at 9.30am today on livenation.co.uk.

On the album, which was created in between live shows, Serge continued: “The album is pure joy and we’ve been through a lot. We’re now in this beautiful place, I think.

“We’d go and hit a festival, play in front of 80,000 people and then be in the studio two days later like, ‘We need music to soundtrack that’. This ain’t the time for a 12-minute jazz odyssey.”

It comes after the news in 2020 that their bandmate, singer Tom Meighan, was leaving the group following allegations of domestic violence.

He was later convicted of assault.

Asked if they talk now, Serge said: “Everyone’s just moved on and gone their separate ways. That’s kind of where we’re at.”

Bassist Chris Edwards explained: “We’re just looking forward now, rather than looking back at what we went through.

“We’re just happy we get to do it again.”

Serge added: “We are blessed because for a minute, it was all gone, and now we appreciate it more than we ever have.”
