Joe Lieberman holding 'No Labels' door wide open for Republican Nikki Haley
Should Nikki Haley fail in the 2024 presidential race — she can write her own second act as a third party candidate.
"I have a lot of admiration for Nikki Haley," former Democrat and "No Labels," founding chair Joe Lieberman told Neal Cavuto during an appearance on Fox News' "Your World."
"I haven't spoken at all to her about this. But it is true; some of our big supporters know her well. I wouldn't be surprised if they are talking with her."
Lieberman tried to explain that whatever chatter might be happening between his centrist political organization, it's all preamble.
"But honestly, she is focused on the Republican primary campaign, and she seems to be doing pretty well," he said. "If for some reason that did not work out and we decided we were going to run a ticket —I think there would be a lot of people in 'No Labels' who would be happy to give consideration to Nikki Haley."
"She's proven herself," he claimed.
"No Labels" has ratcheted its effort to become an alternative to the Democratic and Republican parties, most recently courting Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) to possibly give a 2024 presidential campaign a go against President Joe Biden.
However, unlike traditional campaigns, "No Labels" remains classified as a nonprofit organization, so it doesn't have to disclose donors or share detailed information about its spending. Reports revealed executives at the org are making huge salaries, however.
Lieberman attempted to beat back questions about whether Haley appears to be the flavor of the moment for "No Labels."
"What we are doing is so unusual," he said. "We are talking about running a bipartisan third choice ticket because the American people don't really want to choose between Trump and Biden and they are disgusted with the two major parties... We are totally focused on getting on the ballots around the country."
"No Labels" is already "active in 27 states," and Lieberman noted that in the New Year, they plan on establishing a committee not simply to co-exist but to have a legitimate chance at victory.
The impetus is to "have a process for considering candidates, really in an official way, if we decide there is a real chance for a third choice here for the American people to actually win and not be spoilers," he said.
Lieberman said last month that he will not be a "spoiler" for the 2024 election that gets Donald Trump elected again. However, he said he plans to use a third-party candidate blackmail against President Biden and turn him to the right.
Lieberman was ousted from the Democratic Party in 2006 when he lost to Ned Lamont, who now serves as the state's governor. One columnist wrote over the summer that the objective of "No Labels" is merely a revenge campaign from Lieberman. Before the 2020 election, Lieberman was singing Trump's praises on MSNBC.
