Cartwright Brothers adds three new trailers to expand pallet network services and cut carbon

Pall-Ex member Cartwright Brothers has taken delivery of three new double-deck trailers as it looks to reduce its environmental impact by expanding its pallet network services.

The Lincolnshire-based haulier, which has an operating licence for 60 trucks and 80 trailers, provides distribution services to customers across eastern England and has over 200,000 square feet of warehousing space.

The company said that the latest fleet additions are part of wider pland to expand its pallet network operation in a bid to reduce its carbon footprint. The haulier has been a member of the Pall-Ex network for over 20 years, and recently joined its sister network, Fortec Distribution.

Jamie Cartwright, director at Cartwright Brothers, said: “With customers becoming increasingly aware of the environmental impact of their freight, there is no better way to improve our carbon footprint than cutting down on the long-haul aspect of general haulage and consolidating consignments together into shorter journeys.

“We identified that increasing our use of the Pall-Ex and Fortec networks and reducing the amount of long-distance general haulage jobs we do, where deliveries can be 50 to 100 miles apart, is the best opportunity for us to become more sustainable.”

The new trailers will each have the capacity to carry up to 52 pallets, meaning the business will be able to input over 150 additional pallets per night into the Pall-Ex and Fortec networks.

Pallet networks are a more cost-effective and sustainable way to send smaller consignments and single pallets, and it is estimated that pallet networks take an average of 800 vehicles off UK roads each day.

Cartwright added: “We have identified the growth of our pallet network partnerships as a pivotal part of our business’ future, in both the short and long term. Expanding our pallet network operation will ensure the continued success of the business as we enter our 80th year in operation since our founding in 1944.”
