I bought an Aldi waste box for £3.50 & it filled the kitchen table – including Christmas canapes & beef wellingtons
AN Aldi shopper was amazed after buying one of the supermarket’s waste boxes for £3.50 and got enough food to fill their table.
The stunned customer showed off photos of their bumper haul, which included a number of tasty Christmas treats.
For less than a fiver, she got numerous daily staples, including bananas, milk, potatoes, grapes, a pepper, a sweet potato and a lime.
She was delighted when they added some items from their festive food range too.
Included in her batch were eight mini beef wellingtons, 24 festive vol-au-vents and two packs of fruit scones.
The tasty treats looked perfect in the run-up to Christmas for hosting friends and families.
The shopper had paid £3.50 to buy the box through the waste prevention app Too Good To Go.
She wrote on the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK that she had got it from the Aldi in Stockton, and added: “It came up on the app at about 20.30.”
One person commented: “Amazing.”
Another added: “I’ve got a Greggs one tonight.”
The Too Good To Go app aims to tackle the huge amounts of food that is thrown away as supermarkets get rid of food that’s about to go off, and restaurants and cafes don’t toss out things that aren’t fresh.
The idea is that stores sign up to sell magic boxes of about to go off items for a reduced price.
There are only a few boxes available every day so you need to be quick. The food is all close to expiry but you can freeze it, or cook something up and keep it for a few days more.
Morrisons was the first supermarket to trial it, with Aldi following suit.
