LASDRI REWARDS 30 PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS FOR DILIGENCE, SAFETY 

                

In a bid to inculcate the requisite positive road culture and sanity in motorists and the commuting public, it is important to introduce an awards programme for all categories of drivers in the private and commercial sectors who have exhibited due diligence and professionalism towards ensuring safety on the roads.

Commissioner of Transportation, Mr. Oluwseun Osiyemi stated this at the Year 2023 Drivers Recognition and Awards ceremony organised by the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute (LASDRI) with the theme, “Nigerian Drivers in the Face of Today’s Economy” held recently at STO Resource Centre, CBD, Alausa Ikeja.                                    

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Director, Transport Operation, Mr. Olasunkanmi Ojoowuro, explained that the incentives being awarded to recipients are in the recognition of their adherence to safety rules and regulations while on the job, noting that it is one thing to understand the safety rules and it is something entirely different to put that knowledge into action, hence, the need to embrace drivers’ award initiative.

He commended the awardees for the distinguished professional ethics they have displayed while on the job, adding that the gesture will send a strong positive message to others on the importance of maintaining a safe workplace and re-echo the value that the government places on a healthy and sane environment.          

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Honourable Sola Giwa, who was represented by the Director, Monitoring and Planning, Mr. Ayodele Abimbola Ositimehin pointed out that drivers are the most important segment of the economy. He argued that the government should place much emphasis on compulsory training for all categories of drivers as a way of protecting lives, property and investment. He admonished drivers to understand and see themselves as very important elements in society.                           

Earlier in her welcome address, the General Manager, Lagos State Drivers’ Institute, Mrs. Afusat Tiamiyu stated that driving is not just about operating a vehicle, it is about fostering a culture of safety, responsibility and continuous improvement.

She said, “This event signifies a moment of coming together to celebrate the backbone of our transport system – our esteemed professional drivers in the public and private sectors who have distinguished themselves by displaying a high level of professionalism in their conduct”.                    

While addressing the awardees, the LASDRI Boss appreciated their dedication and commitment to the evolving transportation landscape. “The awards are a testament to your hard work, exemplifying the excellence that we strive to instil through the training programmes at the Drivers Institute. We congratulate all the awardees who play a significant role in the transportation ecosystem of Lagos State”, she said.
