Polysemy is a minimalist furniture collection created by Tokyo-based designer So Koizumi. Unlike standard pieces of furniture that are confined to their predetermined roles, “Polysemy” defies these limitations. Its unique design allows it to morph into different configurations, effortlessly transforming into a bookshelf or a side table, adapting to the needs of various spaces and situations. This flexibility grants users the freedom to utilize it in a multitude of ways, empowering them to actively engage their imagination in shaping their surroundings. In a departure from the usual dynamic between designers and users, where designers dictate functionality and users merely receive it, “Polysemy” encourages a more interactive and creative relationship.
By establishing rules and margins rather than rigid functions, it invites users to explore and interact with the object creatively. This approach results in a more thoughtful and enriching living space, one where the user actively participates in defining the object’s purpose. “Polysemy” boasts a minimalist construction composed of just three metal plates securely bolted together. Its external dimensions measure W565 D250 H350 when used as a bookshelf. This versatile piece is available in three distinct colors: ‘Black,’ ‘Light Grey,’ and ‘Silver,’ the latter featuring a stainless steel finish with a striking vibrancy.
