MORE than 90 per cent of criminal damage and arson offences went unsolved in the last year.
New Home Office figures show that of the half a million cases reported, 62 per cent didn’t end in court because cops couldn’t find a suspect.
Around 51,000 were dropped due to issues with evidence and 102,000 cases were closed because victims no longer supported action.
Labour last night slammed the Ministry of Justice for “letting criminals off and letting victims down”.
Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper vowed to reverse the collapse in unsolved crimes by hiring 13,000 new neighbourhood officers to patrol local streets.
She also pledged to fast-track the recruitment of 7,000 detectives.
Ms Cooper told The Sun: “Antisocial behaviour, vandalism and town centre crime are hollowing out our high streets and undermining local business.
“There are too few consequences for gangs and vandals making residents’ lives a misery and blighting local communities.
“We will introduce Respect Orders to tackle adults who repeatedly carry out antisocial behaviour, we will make attacking a shop worker a standalone offence to help make our communities a place to feel safe and welcome again.”
