The Union environment ministry approved a private university in Faridabad, which is the largest in Delhi-NCR, on protected Aravali land. This is the first project in Haryana to receive post-facto environmental clearance under the amended Forest (Conservation) Act. The university, built since 1998, lies on 13.6 hectares of Aravali land that is categorized under sections 4 and 5 of Punjab Land Preservation Act. The clearance is conditional on compensatory afforestation on non-forest land.
