'Trump engaged in insurrection': Colorado secretary of state urges SCOTUS to 'act quickly'

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold has urged the U.S. Supreme Court to "act quickly" to uphold Donald Trump's ban from the state's primary ballot.

Griswold made her first comments about the Supreme Court appeal in a social media post on Thursday.

"Donald Trump engaged in insurrection and was disqualified under the Constitution from the Colorado Ballot," she wrote.

"The Colorado Supreme Court got it right. This decision is now being appealed. I urge the U.S. Supreme Court to act quickly given the upcoming presidential primary election," the Colorado official added.

Griswold also pointed to a recent editorial column in the Denver Post that called for the high court to rule against Trump.

"The case Anderson vs. Griswold is clear; Trump's actions have disqualified him from holding the office of president," the paper's editorial board wrote. "Four members of Colorado's Supreme Court spelled out exactly how and why Trump cannot appear on Colorado's primary ballot in 2024 in a ruling that slams the door on many of the exit ramps the U.S. Supreme Court could take to avoid actually considering the consequences of Trump's actions."

"The U.S. Supreme Court, if asked on appeal, must protect our republic," the paper concluded.
