Newcastle Unlikely To Sign Midfielder On Current Terms
Newcastle United are unlikely to sign Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan under the current terms on offer, according to the Daily Mail.
Phillips is expected to leave Manchester City this month after spending another half a season on the bench at the Etihad.
The midfielder is wary of losing his place in the England squad ahead of next summer’s European Championship.
Newcastle are interested in signing the midfielder on loan as part of their plans but for the moment a deal seems unlikely.
It has been claimed that Newcastle do not want to sign Phillips under the terms on offer from Manchester City at the moment.
Manchester City are said to be demanding a loan fee in excess of £7m and plus an obligation to buy.
Newcastle do not want to spend such a big loan fee even if they are interested in signing Phillips.
The Magpies have financial fair play constraints and do not want to push their limits in the ongoing window.
It remains to be seen whether Newcastle manage to convince Manchester City to negotiate the loan fee down.
