A Collection of Air Jordans From Each of Michael’s 6 NBA Titles Is Expected to Fetch At Least $7 Million at Auction

Nearly a year after unveiling a collection of sneakers worn by Michael Jordan during each of his six NBA Championship wins, Sotheby’s has announced plans for the assortment to go up for auction.

The unprecedented collection, dubbed the “Dynasty Collection,” features a single Air Jordan shoe from each of the title-clenching games in Jordan’s six NBA Finals appearances. Tim Hallam, a public relations executive for the Chicago Bulls, was personally given each of the signed sneakers by Jordan as part of a tradition that began with the team’s first championship in 1991. An anonymous buyer then purchased the collection directly from Hallam before enlisting Sotheby’s to facilitate another transaction.

Prior to the ’91 Finals, Hallam requested a game-worn Air Jordan sneaker from the man himself should the Bulls go on to win the title. After clinching the championship in Game 5 against the Los Angeles Lakers, Jordan removed one of the shoes from his pair of Air Jordan 6s, signed it, and gave it to Hallam. Being superstitious, Jordan continued the practice after each of the following five championships — in the process creating what is now the most valuable collection of sneakers, if not sports memorabilia period, to ever go to market.

Sotheby’s originally announced plans last year to make the collection of sneakers available to purchase through a private sale. But after putting the collection on display through a worldwide tour, the auction house and the owner decided it would be best to accept bids in order to determine the true value. The auction will begin Feb. 2, and Sotheby’s is estimating a final price of $7 million to $10 million.

In addition to the Air Jordan 6, the collection consists of an Air Jordan 7 from the ’92 title, Air Jordan 8 from ’93, Air Jordan 11 from ’96, Air Jordan 12 from ’97, and Air Jordan 14 from ’98. Also included in the auction are photographs showing Jordan celebrating each of the championships, except for ’91, while wearing just one shoe — the other having already been given away.

In 2023, a pair of Air Jordan 13s signed and worn by Jordan in Game 2 of the ’98 Finals sold for $2.2 million to set the current record for most expensive sneakers ever sold.
