Maybe we’re looking back on the pre-iMessage days with rose-coloured lenses, but there’s no keepsake quite like a handwritten postcard. That’s why we’re loving this new Louis Vuitton City Guide Winter Resorts — a ski-trip companion equipped with seven postcards for each destination. The booklets are bursting with inspiration and insider tips for every snow-filled city, from Colorado to Switzerland.
Before exploring the destinations in print, we’ll put our tech-first readers at ease: there’s a digital component in the mix, too. The Louis Vuitton mobile app is jam-packed with exclusive content. Constantly updated with little-known spots and local gems, the app is like having a city native (with some seriously refined taste) on your home screen.
No less than seven artists — Tom Haugomat, Sarah Mazzetti, Jochen Gerner, Simon Bailly, Lisa Mouchet, Giacomo Nanni, and Fanny Blanc — bring the guide to life. Custom illustrations dance across the pages, brimming with funky scenes and local highlights. The postcards are a sleek way to revamp your classic Christmas card. Honestly though, we wouldn’t blame you for keeping it as a coffee table book — the vibrant scenes offer a fresh take on favourite ski spots like Aspen and Gstaad.
Two sites appear on the fold-out pages for the first time: Kitzbühel and Crans-Montana. Portrayed by artists Giacomo Nanni and Fanny Blanc, respectively, these icy European cities are certainly up to Louis Vuitton’s standards. Nanni’s illustrations cast a playful light onto the ancient streets of Kitzbühel. Vibrant clusters of townhouses and vast stretches of cotton-white slopes capture Austria’s fairytale charm. Subtle detailing profiles historic stone walls and winding medieval streets.
Not to be outdone, Blanc’s artwork opens the heart of Switzerland: shiny, geometric visuals depict fragmented scenes of Crans-Montana. Nostalgic train sets and adrenaline-fuelled, powder-filled ski jumps float across the glossy postcards. It’s almost dangerously wanderlust-inducing — Blanc’s cheerful sketches make us want to start packing, pronto.
While the French brand is virtually synonymous with haute couture, they’re fluent in luxury lifestyles across the board. Earlier this year, architecture critic Paul Goldberger profiled their extensive ventures into design with his book, Louis Vuitton Skin: The Architecture of Luxury. Goldberger’s selections proved that the fashion house is more than a thread and needle — Louis Vuitton is deeply ingrained into the fabric of luxury. Since launching in 1998, the guide aims to inspire readers with profiles of underground gems hidden amidst snowy hilltops.
Like the brand’s bespoke storefronts, the City Guide synthesizes local styles with world-class design, elevating destinations around the globe while retaining a cultural relevance. All seven ski resorts have (fittingly) seven postcards inside their booklet — enough keepsakes for everybody on the trip.
