Jamie Raskin ratchets up attacks on Trump taking payments from 'murderous Saudi monarchs'

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) on Friday ramped up his attacks on former President Donald Trump amid revelations that foreign officials from countries such as China and Saudi Arabia spent lavishly at his properties while he was president.

While speaking outside the United States Capitol building, Raskin reiterated the importance of the so-called emoluments clause of the United States Constitution that prevents the president from receiving foreign payments during his term in office.

"It's very clear in the Constitution of the United States that the president may not accept a present, an emolument, an office, or a title of any kind whatever from a prince, a king, or a foreign government without the consent of Congress," he said. "And yet, we showed yesterday, we've got the documented receipts that Donald Trump pocketed $7.8 million from foreign governments, from China, from Saudi Arabia, from the United Arab Emirates, without ever coming to Congress first."

Raskin's attack comes as congressional Republicans have been trying, but so far failing, to find that President Joe Biden improperly profited from his son's overseas business dealings, as so far they have only showed that Hunter Biden used money he'd made overseas to repay his father for a car loan.

Raskin concluded his remarks by once again emphasizing the importance of barring presidents from receiving income from foreign sources.

"Under the Constitution of the United States, that's all you're allowed to take is your salary!" he said. "You can't get paid by Chinese communist bureaucrats or murderous Saudi monarchs!"
