4 workers injured in explosion at Piscataway construction site: officials
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (PIX11) – Four workers were injured in an explosion at a construction site in Piscataway Friday afternoon, officials said.
The construction workers were working on the River Road bridge over Interstate 287 when an explosion occurred during pressure testing of a gas line, according to Piscataway Township officials.
Two of the workers were hospitalized in critical condition, Piscataway Mayor Brian Wahler said.
A nearby resident told PIX11 News that the construction project has been going on for a while. He said he didn't hear the explosion when it happened.
River Road was temporarily shut down in the area after the explosion. It has since reopened in both directions. The on ramp from Interstate 287 onto River Road was expected to reopen soon, according to the mayor.
