A HOME expert has revealed three ways to ensure you get the most out of your heating as the weather dips.
Homeowners may find themselves turning the thermostat on due to the winter chill – but you may be wasting your money.
This could be a result of three common factors, warned interior expert Warren Kinloch from Bathroom Deal.
They revealed that one common mistake was a huge factor in losing heat in your home.
Furniture
One mistake people make is putting their furniture too close to the radiators.
While you may have thought this helps heat the furniture quicker, it couldn’t be further from the truth and can negatively effect the heat distribution.
Speaking to the Express, the expert said: “Furniture acts as a barrier, preventing warm air from circulating freely around the room.
“To optimise heat flow, ensure that there is sufficient space between your furniture and radiators.”
Putting space between the two can warm up an entire room much more efficiently, he said.
Windows and doors
Leaky windows and doors can make you lose lots of heat from your home.
Poorly sealed windows and doors can let cold drafts come in and let heat escape from the home, so you’re basically throwing your money away.
An easy way to check for drafts is by running your hand along window frames and door frames to see if there is a cold breeze coming through.
If you do feel a draft, Warren recommends using weatherstripping or applying caulk to fill in the gaps.

Cold drafts from poorly sealed windows and doors can offset the warmth generated by the heating system.
Households can check for drafts by running their hand along window frames and door edges.
Thermostats
Misconfigured thermostat settings can be a “sneaky factor” contributing to a chilly home said the home expert.
Using the wrong setting could lead to inadequate heating in your home.
He added: “You should always double check that your thermostat is programmed correctly, and consider investing in a smart thermostat for more precise temperature control.”
