No more public red notices in sports
The sports ethics committee decided on Wednesday that it would stop issuing red and yellow alert notices, related to match-fixing and corruption.
The committee decided that they would stop making the notices public to aid the work of the national betting authority.
The committee also decided to appoint officials to investigate complaints and that they would issue a statement on an investigation into shooting competitions in Cyprus next Friday.
After a meeting with the president and national betting authority and after listening to the arguments and concerns of the head of the authority, the committee has decided to no longer announce yellow and red warnings. This is within the framework of the cooperation between the betting authority and the committee.
The committee also said that it received the results of match-fixing claims filed for two football matches in May last year, for which it had nothing to say so far.
One of the two investigators that was appointed, Stavros Stavrou will look into match-fixing claims in a Yeroskipou FC v Aspis Pylas match.
The other, Christakis Mavris will investigate claims filed about people involved in Cyprus’ weightlifting.
Two more investigators were also appointed Andreas Zonias, who will investigate issues in boxing, while Charilaos Chrysanthou will investigate issues in swimming.
