'Oh yeah, we're really afraid of you': Dem drips with sarcasm in response to MTG

Democratic lawmakers are both mocking and knocking Republicans for their chaotic attempt Wednesday to hold Hunter Biden in contempt — as he sat watching in the front row.

After Republican Oversight and Reform chair Rep. James Comer (R-KY) made it clear that he wasn't going to allow Biden to speak, the president's son stood and walked out. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) told reporters after the fact that he was too scared to face them. She even went so far as to say Hunter Biden was having a "temper tantrum."

"Oh yeah. We’re all afraid of you, MTG," Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) joked to Raw Story, referring to the congresswoman by her initials.

The Georgia congresswoman is also facing criticism from conservatives for sharing nude photos of Hunter Biden publicly during an earlier congressional hearing.

Greene also said that the committee coordinated with Hunter Biden's attorneys and that they had agreed on a date for an interview — though Biden is refusing to attend unless the hearing to be public.

"We agreed on a transcribed interview, which is exactly how all committees work in Congress," she said. Though all committees transcribe their interviews, not all committees must be behind closed doors.

"They always have a transcribed interview with a witness, and then you hold a public hearing," she said, despite that not actually being factually accurate. Many committee hearings are held in public without a private session.

Connolly believes Republicans want a private session so that they can "cherry-pick" Hunter Biden's testimony and leak it to his disadvantage, he told Raw Story.

He then addressed Republicans directly.

"What is it you're afraid of? Because you're claiming he's afraid," Connolly said. "Well, the fact that he's here, ready to be sworn in and testify would suggest otherwise...So, who's really afraid here?"

In an interview with Raw Story before Hunter Biden left the hearing, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) argued Biden's appearance was a show of savviness, noting the committee has held 90 private interviews but only published the transcripts of one.

"The other 89, they have made selective quotes that they distort with half a sentence," Nadler told Raw Story. "Hunter Biden does not want to be distorted that way."

Nadler ultimately described Wednesday's hearing as a political gimmick.

"The Republicans have nothing substantive to offer the public," he told Raw Story. "So, they're going through ridiculous games and circuses."
