Warriors vs. Pelicans injury report

The Golden State Warriors are preparing to host the New Orleans Pelicans, with hopes of adding a small glimmer of light at the end of a highly-disappointing seven-game home stand. It’s been ugly, folks. But the Pelicans are a good team, so while the potential for continued ugliness is high, there’s also a chance for the Warriors to start to get things back on track.

They’re starting out behind the eight-ball, though, as the Dubs are missing more key contributors than the Pels are. Here’s the full injury report.

Warriors

Out — Draymond Green (return to competition reconditioning)

Green’s indefinite suspension ended over the weekend, with the four-time All-Star returning to the bench on Sunday to watch the team get booed off the court against the Toronto Raptors. Neither Green nor the Warriors are giving a timeline for when he’ll actually start playing again, though.

Out — Chris Paul (left hand fracture)

Paul suffered a huge blow on Friday, when he fractured his hand and had to undergo surgery. Thankfully it seems to be a relatively mild injury, as CP3 is expected to return in February.

Out — Gary Payton II (left hamstring strain)

The Dubs could definitely use GPII’s defense and athleticism in this matchup, but he’s out for a while, unfortunately. Heal up, Gary!

Pelicans

Out — Matt Ryan (right elbow surgery)

Ryan was playing a key role for the Pelicans off the bench early this year, averaging 22.9 minutes and shooting 47.1% from three-point range on high volume. After bouncing between three teams in his first two seasons, and playing sparingly, he looked to have found a home. Unfortunately he had to undergo arthroscopic surgery for his elbow about a month ago, and has no timetable for a return yet.

Zion Williamson (right quad contusion)
Jose Alvarado (non-COVID illness)

Both Williamson and Alvarado are listed as “questionable” on the official injury report, but Pelicans head coach — and former Warriors assistant coach — Willie Green announced that both players will be available.
