DRIVERS have been urged to use their air conditioning to tackle ice this winter – it could save you hundreds.
The freezing temperatures have well and truly arrived in the UK this week and it’s left people scrambling to de-ice their cars each morning.
Whacking the heating on full blast in the hope of de-frosting your vehicle as quickly as possible – as well as warming yourself up – is a method adopted by many.
But while there is nothing wrong with turning the heating on to defrost your car, there is a better and more efficient way to do it.
According to an expert, drivers should be using their air conditioning during the winter months just as much as they do in summer months.
That’s because defrosting your car with the air conditioning in the winter could save you hundreds of pounds.
In a video uploaded onto TikTok (@lev.films), the expert claims that your air con is more likely to work in the summer if you’ve been using it in the winter.
As a result, you hopefully won’t have to fork out on repairing the system.
“During the winter, most people will turn the temperature up and have their air conditioning off,” said the expert.
“Yes, the car will be warm, but what it won’t do is demist or de-ice the car as well.
“So you should be turning your air conditioning on because, when it comes round to the summer, it’s more likely to work if you’ve been using it throughout the winter months.”
After watching the video, many drivers were left praising the air con hack.
One person commented: “You NEED to use the a/c year round to keep the system good. It dries the air, demists your screen faster – you don’t have to have it blowing cold.”
Another said: “I have always done this. The ac gets rid of the moisture so fast!”
A third added: “It also saves the air con seals from drying up.”
Elsewhere, drivers are just learning of a handy product that can defrost a car’s windscreen in seconds – hopefully putting to rest everyone’s least-favourite morning chore.
All it takes is a spray bottle, some water and an everyday product that only costs a couple of quid.
And drivers have also been warned to avoid using another simple hack to defrost their car as it could land them with an £80 fine.
