Police dog helps Bristol officers capture two suspects in armed home invasion

Two men face a long list of charges after they were arrested for an alleged armed home invasion in Bristol on Friday, police said.

Around 2:31 a.m. on Friday, officers were dispatched to a home on North Street after a victim contacted 911 to report that men with guns were robbing them in their home, according to the Bristol Police Department.

As responding officers arrived at the home, they encountered two male suspects, later identified as Anthony Diaz, 29, and Joseph Raymond, 26, attempting to flee the scene, police said.

According to police, Diaz and Raymond would not comply with officers’ commands and attempted to escape.

Diaz attempted to flee and was uncooperative, police said. Ultimately, he was apprehended by police dog “Hero” and her handler, Bristol Officer Jake Pollock.

Raymond was taken into custody without further issue, according to police.

After a search of the area, police allege that they found a firearm along with other corroborating evidence.

Diaz is charged with home invasion, and robbery, burglary, threatening, kidnapping with a firearm and unlawful restraint, all in the first degree; second-degree assault; sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit home invasion, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, conspiracy to commit first-degree unlawful restraint, conspiracy to commit first-degree threatening, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, alteration of a firearm serial number, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, interfering/resisting, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of cannabis with intent to sell, failure to keep narcotic in original container and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Raymond is charged with home invasion, and robbery, burglary, threatening, kidnapping with a firearm, and unlawful restraint, all in the first degree; second-degree assault, sixth-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit home invasion, conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery, conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, conspiracy to commit first-degree unlawful restraint, conspiracy to commit first-degree threatening, conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny, alteration of a firearm serial number, carrying a pistol without a permit, interfering/resisting and possession of a controlled substance.

Diaz and Raymond were each being held in lieu of $500,000 bail, police said.
