US confirms another attack on Houthi targets in Yemen
The United States Central Command has announced that the United States has once again launched an attack on Houthi targets supported by the Islamic Republic of Iran in Yemen.
General McKenzie, the commander of the U.S. Central Command, stated in a press release that at 3:45 AM Saturday, 13, local time in Sanaa, U.S. forces launched an attack on a Houthi radar site in Yemen.
He emphasized that this attack was designed for a specific military purpose and was related to early morning attacks on Friday aimed at weakening the Houthi’s capability to attack commercial ships.
According to the statement, this attack was carried out by the USS Carney naval vessel using Tomahawk missiles.
The U.S. Central Command asserts that this new attack on Houthi positions is not related to the military coalition of 20 countries aimed at protecting shipping lanes in the Red Sea, Bab-el-Mandeb, and the Gulf of Aden.
In the statement, General McKenzie mentioned that Iran-backed Houthi rebels had attacked ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden 28 times using drones, anti-ship ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles, creating obstacles for these ships.
This attack comes after reports from British media about Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea, with the support of Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands.
Previously, President Biden had warned of a strong U.S. response if Houthi attacks in the Red Sea continued.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, in response to the U.S. and British attacks on Houthi rebels in Yemen, emphasized that the U.S. should stop supporting Israel instead of attacking Yemen, to restore security throughout the region.
