Alasdair Gold sheds light on the impact Johan Lange is having at Tottenham

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has now provided details on the impact that Johan Lange has had since walking through the door at Tottenham and just how he worked together with Ange Postecoglou to identify targets ahead of the January window.

Gold says the word that is most used to describe Lange at Spurs is ‘quiet’, with the club’s new technical director said to be someone who ‘gets on with his job’ rather than acting in an egotistical manner.

It is explained that his ‘quiet, unassuming and friendly’ nature is seen as a welcome addition at Tottenham, given all the chaos of the last few years, with several dominant personalities jostling for power.

Lange is said to have a strong relationship with Spurs’ new chief scout Rob Mackenzie, who is said to be the Dane’s ‘eyes and ears’.

Johan Lange is working well with Postecoglou 

Gold says that the 44-year-old had been engaging in constant discussions with Postecoglou ahead of the January window to ensure that the data crunching was focused on the right type of players and characters. 

The journalist revealed that once Lange and the recruitment team present some names to the Australian based on the criteria he gives them, the Spurs head coach pours through footage to assess if those players can fit into his team.

Gold adds that Postecoglou then picks his top targets from the list, while the availability of different players ends up filtering the list further before the club settles on who to pursue.

It sounds like there is plenty of communication back and forth between Postecoglou and the recruitment department so that the latter have a clear understanding of the kind of players to look for. By the sounds of it, Ange has been given more power in recruitment decisions than the likes of Mourinho and Conte were.
