New law could force Fujitsu to pay back every single postmaster who lost cash in the Horizon scandal
FUJITSU will be forced to pay back every single postmaster who lost money in the Horizon scandal, under a proposed new law.
The government is bringing forward a Bill to clear all 700 Brits convicted in the Post Office fiasco.
But Lord John Mann said there are 4,000 more “hidden victims” who borrowed or spent their savings paying cash back which they never actually owed.
He is tabling an amendment to the Bill demanding the IT giant Fujitsu repay every single penny of this cash back.
The bill is expected to stretch into many millions of pounds.
He told The Sun on Sunday: “There are over 4,000 additional sub postmasters and mistresses who simply kept their heads down and paid back the money.
“They clearly feared prosecution and the damage to their reputation in the community they served.“I will be tabling an amendment to the emergency legislation to require Fujitsu to pay each and everyone of the back in full.
“These hidden victims must not be ignored, nor their suffering over the years
“It is right that Fujitsu are held to account for their disgraceful treatment of these decent and honest people.”
It comes after Justice Secretary Alex Chalk said Fujitsu should cough up cash for the post office compensation scheme as “polluters should pay”.
But ministers are waiting until the public inquiry into the scandal ends before they work out how to do this.
It is due to finish at the end of the year.
There are also calls for Fujitsu to be stripped of its government contracts.
Fujitsu did not respond to a request to comment.
